You Should’ve Said No – 2012

You shouldn’t smoke this other blunt, and you know it too. But your drunken ass just can’t say no to Sonia, licking the Dutchie with her raspberry mouth, because you don’t see a blunt at all, but imagine something else between her lips, and instead of saying no, you hand her a lighter.

Sonia is a professional at rolling pencil-straight blunts. You imaging she must be professional at other things too, because that’s how your perverse mind thinks. It doesn’t matter that she can’t cook rice and beans like Abuelita does, or that she leaves dirty panties in the tub, or thinks Uruguay is an exotic Malaysian dish. Read the rest of this entry

How to Write an Essay – 2013

This is the first in an upcoming series of instructional videos for writing composition. This brief video presentation shows you the basic elements of an academic essay structure, including the introduction, body paragraphs and the conclusion. This instructional video was created for an English Composition course at Full Sail University. If you’re a new student entering any college or university for the first time, or returning to school after a long absence, this video should help you adopt a proper organizational essay structure.

Little 5 Year Old DJ – 2011

Just a dad having some fun with his son and a camera. Dionysus following in dad’s footsteps as he rocks out to dad’s track. The mixing skills are on point, but don’t sleep on the dancing moves though. Music: Lula vs. Wilson Santos “The DJ, the Music and Me” Eddie Cumana mix for Kult Records. Shot, directed, edited by Wilson Santos.

On The Dominican Road – 2009

A typical Dominican road trip from Santo Domingo to Bavaro and back. The image quality sucks since this was shot with a cheap 3meg digital camera, but you get the idea. I could’ve used some Bachata as background music, but this is done as a visual homage to Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road” and Kerouac didn’t listen to Bachata. Coltrane and Miles seemed more appropriate.

Central Park, NYC – 2005

Shot and edited by Wilson Santos using a cheap 3meg camera. This video captures a typical summer weekend in central park, the heart and soul of New York City, with dancers, drummers, skaters and lovers. The track is titled “Love Song” by Nadirah Shakoor. The footage was rescued from an old hard drive that was about to be trashed.

NYU Student Films (1994)

This collection of student films was originally shot on 16mm B&W stock in 1994, during a 6 week intensive film course at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts where Wilson Santos studied. After years of lugging a green rucksack full of these old film reels from apartment to apartment, Santos finally rescued them from oblivion, projected them on a screen and re-shot them using a Canon T2i. Although Santos hasn’t produced another film since then, choosing instead to write, produce music, design, study and educate, looking at these shorts and now working as a professor at Full Sail University has inspired Santos to grab a camera and start shooting again. Let’s see what 2013 brings.

*All films were written, directed, produced, and edited by Santos at NYU, 1994.
